This is a beta of a full 3D Mars globe system. You can fly anywhere you want on the planet, but we've also included a few tours to get you going.

This activity requires the GeoFusion GeoPlayer plugin. It will automatically install when you start. Keep an eye out for the yellow bar near the top of the browser and click "ok" when asked to install the plugin.

System Requirements

  • As fast an internet connection as possible.
  • Windows running Internet Explorer 6 or 7. Sorry about that, but this version is still Windows only. We're working on that.
  • Vista users: you'll need to run Internet Explorer in "Administrator Mode". To do this, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon, then select "Run as Administrator ". You'll be asked for permission to continue; click "Allow".

Known Bugs

This version is pretty stable, but don't be surprised if you need to restart Internet Explorer. Have patience: it's cool when you get it going!

The Data

The base map is a combination of MGS MOLA topographic data and modified Viking imagery. Here and there you will find higher resolution sections, with imagery from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Odyssey spacecraft and ESA's Mars Express.
